iPhone Release

July 10th, 2008

As I write this we are 12 hours and 48 min from the release of the iPhone 2.0. I know I wrote about the iPhone 3G a few days ago, but that was mainly me complaining about AT&T’s lack of 3G coverage. Anyway, I digress. One of my favorite blogs on the web LifeHacker has got you covered for all things iPhone 2.0. Take the jump.

Reach an Apex in Life

July 9th, 2008

I found this post over at our friends Dumb Little Man. It’s Michael Jordan’s 10 Secrets to Reaching the Top. Honestly, growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, what better role model could you ask for? Here is my favorite on the list:

Fail Freely

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Can you believe that Michael Jordan missed so many shots and lost so many games? I thought he was the best! Well, he is indeed the best, and it’s because he was willing to fail, and keep going. That allowed him to get past his plateaus and persevere. That’s another big reason for procrastination. When we think we’ll fail, we do not attempt. A good solution is to consider what the worst case scenario of failing would be, because once you do that, it’s never as bad as when the scenario was an unknown. Worst-case scenario is not that you’ll die, it’s that you lived a miserable (or comfortable) life as a coward.

Good stuff, Good stuff indeed.

iPhone3G…So what?

July 8th, 2008

Now don’t get me wrong. I actually own a first Gen iPhone and love the little treasure to death. Everyone and their mother is flocking to get this new 3G second Gen iPhone, but I don’t really know if they have a clue what they are doing. 3G is not available everywhere. Quite frankly, if you don’t live in a MAJOR US city you are basically screwed. I live in a metro area (Omaha, Nebraska) of about a million people. 3G is not available to me. Forget that we are home to many fortune 500 companies. Forget that 3G should have been here more than a year ago.

I am not complaining, really. I just think AT&T should get their act together and push out 3G. If you are gonna hype a phone so much and the only reason it was rushed and put out was because it was 3G, make sure you get the network up to par.

Better Napping.

July 7th, 2008

I have seen so many different blog posts about how to get in some good napping. I know that when I used to be in the nine to five rat wheel, I would give up lunch to take a nap in my car in the parking lot. The best way, for me, was to just not worry about getting up. Relax and just clear your mind. Sounds scary, I know, but you have to trust yourself and let go. You may or may not wake up on time. I always woke up in 15-20 minutes refreshed like I had slept for hours. If you have a strict time schedule at work where there is no give for lunch times, then I do not advise napping in this fashion. However, if you lose your job guess what you have more time to do…

Need a Tutorial?

July 7th, 2008

While going through the menagerie of life hacking sites to find some content, I found a nice little post over at Dumb Little Man about “15 Awesome Tutorial Websites You Probably Don’t Know About” Here is one of my favorites in the list that I use ALL the time.

YouTube:
Surprised? Well, it shouldn’t be if you use YouTube a lot. Yesterday my younger brother bought a new guitar and the very first thing he needed to do was to tune it. So he just logged on, went to youtube.com and searched for “How to tune a guitar”. And there you go! He had a nice video explaining the process step-by-step.
